Information about the NCSA Learn to Play Program
The LTP (Learn to play) program is for boys and girls, aged 4 through 7. The program offers an environment where your athletes have the ability to learn the basics of softball/baseball through a graduated program developed through Softball Canada.
The basic fundamental of the Learn to Play Program is the development of young athletes to be able to catch, hit, run, and learn the game of softball in a safe environment, which also promotes teamwork, fair play, sportsmanship, and loads of fun! At this level they are not playing to win, but rather are praised for hitting the ball or running to the correct base!
This program has been compared to a combination of tee ball and coach pitch. The program uses a batting tee to teach the initial skill of batting, and through progression moves to live pitching from a coach. The ultimate goal of the batting portion of the LTP Program is to give each athlete the ability to hit a pitched ball.
We have one of the largest Learn to Play Programs in Calgary, and are constantly working on improving the experience. We have introduced a year end tournament for this group of athletes, which can be enjoyed by children and parents alike. As well, with almost 100 athletes in this program, we tier players into two divisions based on age and experience.
For a further look into our LTP program, check out the curriculum we follow from the LTP program developed by Softball Canada.
Additional Information
- The Learn to Play Program occurs on Monday and Wednesday evenings (typically between 6:30 to 8pm) with this time split between skill development and playing a game.
- Some travel is required throughout the district to meet up with one other team.
- The only equipment your athlete will need is a glove, runners, and happy helpful parents. Everything else is provided (balls, bats, helmets, bases)
- All requests for team placement are considered and accommodated to the best of our ability to do so (we will keep siblings on the same team).
